The story of Welcome Station RV Park all began July 2017 in the Nevada High Desert. Steve and Nancy O’Bosky, the current owners, had been traveling as full-time RVers for about 16 years. At that time in July they were headed from Wyoming to Fresno, California to be with Steve’s father while he was on hospice. Along the drive Steve remembered the old rv park here in Wells, Nevada and for the first time decided to actually make a reservation to stay. They stayed at site 3. During their stay they were sitting around the campfire with a local resident named Art. Steve mentioned, “if this place were ever for sale we’d buy it.” Art told Steve the old owners actually did want to sell the park but currently someone was already preparing to buy it. So, Nancy and Steve went on their way to Fresno forgetting all about it and proceeding to be with Steve’s father.
Later on, the day before Steve’s father passed away there was news that the property was back up for sale. Evidently, there was some conflict of interest and the previous deal fell through. So, Nancy and Steve consulted with their kids and found that they supported the endeavor! At the ages of 62 and 63 this happy couple went for it and began the development of a new dream! They officially took over on August 24th, 2017. An old house from the 1930s still stood where their house is currently today. Unfortunately, it was too old to be livable and it was demolished in 2018. The new house arrived in June of 2018 and now contains our store/office. A couple of old buildings are still on the property. Our restrooms, laundry room, and museum are old pieces we continue to take good care of today.
You might be wondering how the bridges, streams, and mini waterfalls came to be. Art Knigge and the O'Boskys became good friends. Art helped them as they navigated taking over the property. Art and his wife built the waterfalls using upside down guard rails and rocks. Later on, he also procured big posts and built bridges so that the opposite side of the stream could be accessed. Today you see our rhubarb, strawberry garden, tulips, and other flowers when you cross the bridge over the stream. Art contributed to that as well by planting many of the bulbs that adorn the creek side for almost two months in May and June. Lastly, Art helped raise the new garage on the side of the shop in 2019. Art is still the main man today that helps us mow, weed eat, water, and manage sticks/leaves. In 2023, he requested we name the waterfalls “Memory Falls” to represent his memories here at Welcome Station and the memories our guests will continue to make.
Another thing you might be wondering about us is how we created a welcoming spiritual and hospitable atmosphere. Community is something Nancy and Steve value so they wanted their business and property to represent that. Nancy, along with the help of wonderful friends, developed the gardens and flower beds. Beauty and peace are always in mind as we continue to grow and care for our variety of plants today. Nancy pursued the little Booklets of John after feeling strongly that she must help The Word go forth. Through their beliefs and kind hearts Nancy and Steve touched many of the lives of those who have stayed here. After accepting a donation to aid in continuing to pursue an atmosphere of ministry and meeting a guest that offered laser services Nancy was able to create the Passion Translation boards you see posted all over the property. This place offers opportunities to pray, listen, and to practice compassion and empathy. In the words of Nancy herself, “It’s not about money it’s about being stewards of God’s creation of the park and serving our community of guests in his honor.”
Recently, we hosted a young girl named Victoria who said, “I like it here…there’s a whole lot of Jesus here.” Victoria at such a young age was able to recognize what we are all about. No matter who our guests are or what they believe we treat them all the same with kindness and love in our hearts. Over the years we have hosted many guests, friends, and volunteers. Some helped us build, some helped us grow, some helped us create and paint, and some helped us manage the business aspects. The park would not be what it is today without our strong sense of community and hospitality. Today we are beyond grateful to see this dream come into a beautiful reality. What a blessing it is to have created our own oasis in the high desert of Nevada through a rv park/campground.
